Law Enforcement Training – Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement
December 14, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
FreeThe Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) program was developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with input from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police. ARIDE was created to address the gap in training between the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and the Drug Evaluation and Classification (DEC) Program.
ARIDE is intended to bridge the gap between an alcohol-impaired driver and a drug-impaired driver. In this class, we will review the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and legal updates. You will also learn about the seven drug categories, signs and symptoms of drug impairment, and two additional field sobriety tests to administer roadside. Additionally, you will hear about ways to prepare for court and OMV hearings.
This is a tuition-free state-approved 16-hour in-service class funded through the WV GHSP.
