The Railroad Investigation and Safety Course, presented by Operation Lifesaver and developed in collaboration with the nation’s railroad police, is an essential training program for law enforcement and first responders. This course is designed to prepare participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and effectively respond to and investigate incidents involving railroads.
What You Will Learn:
- Rail Safety 101: Understand the fundamentals of rail safety, including freight train stopping distances, clearances, parking, train movement, speed, and the functions of the train.
- On-Scene Safety and Situational Awareness: Learn how to handle hazardous materials, take necessary on-scene precautions, and maintain safety awareness in rail tunnels and bridges.
- Rail Resources and Initial Report Information: Gain insights into unique equipment markings, train documents, on-track equipment, and the duties of engineers and conductors.
- Rail Incident Conclusion: Master the procedures for clearing the scene, reporting systems, and understanding the impact of train incidents on the community.
