On Wednesday May 24, 2023 the Saint Albans Police Department’s Special Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on Lotus Road in Saint Albans, West Virginia at the conclusion of a drug investigation. Detectives entered the residence and located a male in a second-floor bedroom attempting to exit from the second-floor window. Detectives grabbed the male and pulled him back into the residence. The male, identified as Dwayne Devante Canada, from SouthGate, Michigan, fought with detectives briefly then fled down the stairs and out of the residence. Dwayne Canada fled the area on foot wearing only one shoe.

Officers from the Saint Albans Police Department, Nitro Police Department, Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Metro Drug Unit and the West Virginia State Police converged on the area in an attempt to locate the suspect. The West Virginia State Police provided aerial coverage with the State Police helicopter. Metro Communications received multiple calls advising the suspect was in various locations. At least two citizens reported having a face-to-face conversation with the suspect where he offered them $1,000 for a ride out of town. The suspect went on to advise he was not from the area and was unsure of exactly where he was.

Metro Communications received multiple calls, of an individual matching the suspect’s description, who entered houses and was confronted by the homeowners before he fled their residences. Metro Communications then received a call, of a male matching the suspect’s description, had entered a residence on Dry Ridge Road and was confronted by the homeowner. The suspect stole the homeowner’s car keys then exited the house and stole the homeowner’s 2016 Toyota Tacoma, four-door, truck and fled east bound on Dry Ridge Road. The vehicle’s license plate number is West Virginia 42U744.

The Saint Albans Police Department are searching for the suspect. Warrants will be obtained charging Dwayne Devante Canada with several felony charges including, possession with intent to deliver fentanyl, daytime burglary and grand larceny (auto). If you know the whereabouts of Dwayne Canada, please contact Metro Communications at 304 348-8111. The Saint Albans Police Department consider the suspect to be armed and dangerous. Please do not approach if you see the male. Call 911 to report his location immediately.

Four (4) other individuals were arrested during the investigation on felony drug charges and a substantial amount of Fentanyl was recovered from the Lotus Road residence.
