The Saint Albans Police Department warns of Telephone Scam.

The Saint Albans Police Department received a complaint on July 15, 2022, about a telephone scam. A resident received a telephone call and the caller alleged to be an officer from the Saint Albans Police Department. The caller advised the Saint Albans Police Department had a federal arrest warrant for the person from the Internal Revenue Service and that the citizen would need to pay $3,000 to avoid being arrested.

This is not the first time this type of scam has been reported, and it is likely that the original call was made through a telephone app. The Saint Albans Police Department wants to make citizens aware of these types of scams and urges that no money be sent to any suspicious caller(s). All citizens are encouraged to call their local police departments if they receive a similar call.
